T he general assembly for women in Cyanika sector in Nyamagabe district set strategies to end domestic violence through the Parents Evening program.
The women general assembly that was convened on Tuesday the 9th.July 2013 to learn on how domestic violence is done and how it can be eradicated among other things.
“In this program, we talk with families affected by domestic violence and some manage to stop and change. People open up and share testimonies, they learn from each other and the program is so productive and can be used to eradicate this issue completely” says Mukankuranga.
Mukankuranga goes on to say that men who attend the parents’ evening are still few compared to men. “We have decided to sensitize men to participate in this program. They will also get a chance to talk about how they are abused and finally settle the issues.”
Immaculée Mukarwego Umuhoza the coordinator of National Women’s Council in Nyamagabe district asked women representatives to work with local authorities in different government programs to get women to better social welfare and development.
This meeting was attended by women representatives in villages, women council in cells and women committee in Cyanika sector.
