Morning sickness is the most terrible sign of all pregnancy signs a woman can encounter. This is condition affects about 85% of all pregnant women; it usually begins at around the fourth week of pregnancy and resolves itself around 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Ways to handle your morning sicknessFor an unlucky minority, morning sickness can continue well into the second trimester and in rare circumstances, some pregnant women suffer morning sickness for the entire duration of their pregnancy.

Morning sickness often strikes first thing in the morning but it is very common for pregnant women to experience bouts of morning sickness at any time of the day or night. Morning sickness usually affects a person through Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and even effects psychological such as anxiety and depression.

Despite research into the causes of morning sickness, medical experts are still unable to definitively explain what causes the condition. It does appear, though, that it is caused by a combination of factors, and these include:

  • Hormonal changes that lead to high hormone levels, particularly estrogen
  • Fluctuation in blood pressure, particularly low blood pressure
  • Low blood sugar
  • Low levels of vitamin B6
  • Physical and chemical changes in the body
  • Altered metabolism of carbohydrates

Finding remedy for this dreaded period of the pregnancy can be a relief though it is mostly never easy to pull it off. Many women try different things including taking ginger or dry crackers and it works for some and not for others.

If you’ve tried everything else and failed, the following tips can also be worth a try.

  • Pull your tongue; literally saying, using a cloth, grasp your tongue and pull gently – it’s meant to stop the actual act of vomiting.
  • Vinegar has been found to ease the nausea in some morning sickness sufferers. The glands in your mouth excrete more saliva during pregnancy that can make some women feel sick. Mix a couple teaspoons of cider vinegar in a mug of warm water to help dry out your mouth.
  • Fill a glass half with warm water and add in one teaspoonful of lime juice, ginger juice, and honey and mint juice. This concoction should be drunk a couple of days for about four days, at which time the nausea is meant to have subsided.
  • A spicy, ghee-filled curry is probably the last meal you feel like when you’re laid low with pregnancy nausea. Take 20-25 leaves and crush to extract some juice. Add honey and two teaspoons of lime juice to this juice and sip a couple times a day.
