T he Rwandan Association for the Promotion of Family Welfare (ARBEF) has prepared training for women in Ruganda, Gashari, Rubengera and Gishyita sectors in Karongi district meant to increase their knowledge on family planning, sexual relations and how to discuss with their children about their reproductive health.
The vice president of ARBEF in the western province of Rwanda Mathias Tugirimana who was also in charge of this training said that they decided to train women because if women understand and participate in family planning g, their families improve as well as the country. The 2 days training was attended by women from Women Councils and health advisors.
Women who attended this training say they learnt a lot especially about family planning and they are now ready to approach the most dreaded dialogue with their children about reproductive health and sexual relations.
Olive Mukasakindi who got trained had this to say, “We understood that some children engage in sexual activities without understanding what they are doing and not even planning to do so, we were taught how we can teach them how to abstain. We were trained on how to discuss with our children about their reproductive health for them to protect their lives and have a better future.”
Women who were trained wished for their husbands to get the same kind of training especially about sexual relations since most men don’t know anything related to this topic and this can be a source of conflict.
