The Ministry of Health has called on pregnant women to attend and complete all the required prenatal services, saying the turn-up is very low.
The call was made by the permanent secretary Dr. Uziel Ndagijimana during the official inauguration of the maternity ward for Matyazo Health Center on Thursday the 31st.Jan.2013
“A pregnant woman is expected to go for antenatal care at least 4 times during the whole pregnancy but the research done in 2010 showed of all pregnant women in the country, only 45% attend the expected times.” Dr. Ndagijimana explained.
The Rwanda government intends for all pregnant women to attend all desired services and even deliver with medical stuff in presence for the sake of both child and mother health. This goal has not been achieved as only 69% of pregnant women give birth in hospitals or health centers.
Health workers who have a responsibility to the Child and Mother health are supposed to attend to pregnant women to make them realize the importance of attending full antenatal care services.
The number of people participating in Mutuelle de santé medical insurance is still low compared to the last year which was 90% of the population of Huye district and now it is 72%.
