Women should take the lead in the fight against domestic violence especially between married couples. This was agreed upon during the meeting in Rulindo district that brought together the National Women Council in districts and province level on Tuesday the 5th.March.2013.
For a woman is the heart of a family, if she participates in reducing and eradicating domestic violence in families it can be possible.
Judith Musabyimariya the coordinator of CNF in Rulindo district said it is possible for domestic violence to be eradicated in the district and they started doing so by teaching women to play a part in this eradication of violence in families program.
“Women in Rulindo district are encouraging each other and learning what can bring harmony in their homes. Women meet in the evening in ‘Umugoroba w’ababyeyi’ program and discuss what should be done for the tranquility in their homes.”
According to Clotilde Zaninka the coordinator of CNF in the Nothern Province of Rwanda, if women want and put their strength in fighting domestic violence it can be eradicated completely.
“Women can prevent domestic violence, they do not have to participate in family conflicts but should be the first to calm the conflicts in their families” says Zaninka.
For Alfred Karekezi a worker in the Ministry of gender and family promotion (MIGEPROF), women in Northern Province of Rwanda should fight for development and there is no development with domestic conflicts in their families.
“A woman cannot develop when she is being abused and her family conflicting. All women should put more strength in eradicating domestic abuse and violence, for you to be productive in whatever you do.”
Women in Rulindo district say they are going to do all it takes to prevent and eradicate domestic violence and attain development.
