I n the preparation for the International Women’s day that will be on Friday the 8th.March.2013, women in Rusizi district say that the government of Rwanda that promotes women have done wonders for them and their social and economic lives have changed for the better.
Programs like gender balance, making it easy for women to get credits in financial institutions, and many others have developed them tremendously. For women in Mururu and Nzahaha sectors, forming cooperatives is the main way to development as it is easy to get credits from financial institutions and forming profitable projects.
Women usually find themselves doing projects about agriculture be it animal or crop husbandry but women in Nzahaha sector are far beyond that. They make cakes and jams from sweet potatoes and those in Mururu sector are planning on constructing a factory that processes tomatoes.
According to Theopiste Nyiranzabonimana and Assumpta Bakarere the coordinators of Women Councils in Mururu and Nzahaha sectors, there is a very good change in the wellbeing of women and in their families. This is mainly due to gender balance between men and women. There is however a need to keep teaching them about good nutrition and farming of vegetables, mushrooms for good health.
For some people to be misunderstanding the concept of gender balance and misusing it to destroy families instead of developing them, Marie Jeanne Mukandera the coordinator of CNF in Rusizi district says this ought to stop. He asked men and women to work together and develop their families and seek financial services from financial institutions and develop.
The International Women’s day for 2013 in Rusizi district will be celebrated in Nkombo sector, discussions and presentations about the day will be given one week in all areas of the district before the women’s Day.
