Girls training, better way on ‘Sugar daddy’ cases

An association operating in Nyamagabe District called ‘Tuvuge Twiyubaka’on January 4th 2013 organized a two day training for girls in Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru districts on creating small income generating projects.

Tuvuge Twiyubaka started helping a girl child in job creation after finding out that old men (dubbed sugar daddies) take advantage of young girls due to poverty.

The participants reveal that building their capacity will enable them fight the problem of ‘sugar daddies’ that lure them into sexual intercourses using material things.

“If we provide for our needs, no man will under look us,” participants say.

Noella Nyiranguge, worker at ‘Tuvuge Twiyubaka’ association explains that girls are trained in small projects and skills, after which they are given loans to implement their projects.

“This makes them feel valuable and confident enough to resist men that tempt them with money and other things,” adds Nyiranguge.

Tuvuge Twiyubaka has helped 20 girls by giving them Rwf30, 000 loan each to start small businesses.

While the girls can now access Rwf150000 loan each, another group of 25 girls are set to get Rwf60000 each as starting capital.
