This money was given to women be individuals or associations by Women funds.

This money was used in realizing trading or farming projects that were done by women but most of the debts have not been paid yet. The financial institutions that gave out these loans closed, people shifted and associations were put on halt. “These debts are about 10 years old and we have the objective of recovering this money no matter what it takes” says Ntakirutimana Zephyrin the vice mayor for social affairs in Gakenke district.
“Collecting the information on people who got the loans even those who shifted to other districts, finding the members of the associations that no longer operate is our goal now” he adds on.
The coordinators for National Women Council in sectors are ready to start this challenging work with the help of sectors’ works. They are sure their work will however be limited by people who shifted to other districts but Ntakirutimana says “we have to start with those available.”
The Women coordinators of CNF intend to move around reminding those with debts to pay in the period of grace and those who will refuse will have their possessions will be auctioned to pay the debt.
