Kayonza Women urged to form associations

Members of Abatwaramucyo, a forum of 12 associations for passion fruit growing in Nyamirama sector of Kayonza district, urged women to form cooperatives and associations for fast social economic development.

Forming associations helps women come together, access bank loans and set up income generating activities to improve their livelihoods.

“Form cooperatives and set up income generating projects. This way you will be independent financially and help your husbands to provide for the family,” said Mariya Odeta Mukarukiriza, a member

“Our social conditions changed because of forming cooperatives. Our business is worth over Rwf4million now,” revealed Jean Marie Vianney Kayumba, forum president.

Every member of the group contributed Rwf100 every week in the start but the forum has expanded to over Rwf4million capital

The forum for passion fruit growing has 80 members from 12 associations

Women are encouraged to form cooperatives in order to access bank loans and start income generating projects for fast social economic development.
